Chris Noltekuhlmann shot a lifestyle photoshoot for Zoox, an Amazon-owned company developing fully autonomous, purpose-built vehicles for urban mobility. Unlike traditional automakers that retrofit existing models, Zoox designs its vehicles from the ground up to operate without a driver, featuring a symmetrical, bidirectional layout and no steering wheel or pedals. Their approach integrates vehicle design, software, and fleet operations into a single, vertically integrated platform, aiming to offer a seamless ride-hailing experience.
The shoot took place on location in San Francisco, focusing on capturing the Zoox robotaxi in real-world urban settings—highlighting how the vehicle fits into everyday city life. To create visuals representing Las Vegas environments, he and the team utilized a virtual LED studio in Oakland, allowing them to simulate key scenes without the need for on-site shooting.
Zoox is currently testing its autonomous vehicles in several U.S. cities, including San Francisco, Las Vegas, and Atlanta, with plans to expand to other urban areas. The company is preparing for a broader commercial rollout, aiming to scale up production and deploy its robotaxi fleet across multiple markets.
